Four Days Until Departure to Tanzania

When I was told Oct.5, 2011 that my application for an Africa Corporate Service Corp assignment had been selected...  March 1, 2012 seemed a long way away!  As I look out on a snowy -15C morning in Calgary I can't believe I'm only 4 days away from departing.  I'm taking quite a collection of Canadian items (everything from a flag to a bottle of CC) ... to some medical books for a hospital ... to IBM logo stuff  ... to some unique medicine ... and finally enough clothes and gear for a month of work and 8 days of safari.  Am afraid to weight my suitcase!

Our team of 15 (who have never met in person prior to our assignment) come from diverse backgrounds and have unique talents.  Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia, China, Northern Ireland, India, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, USA .... who did I miss?

With Aldrey's leadership, Maria's creativity and Ross's production skills we have a team logo and t-shirts  that represent  - 15 IBMers and our partners, working with our 3 Tanzanian host organizations, to contribute to a bright future for Tanzania!!

As I scramble to get my IBM Canada work closed off, complete additional digital library research, pack, and fit in ice curling games Monday and Wednesday nights... while following Colleen's formula for reducing the effects of jet lag... I'm looking forward to a very unique experience.

I'm hoping for a little warmer weather. Calgary front and back this morning ... a dusting of snow and -15C!
